The Lady Dogs completed their regular season with a convincing 57-37 victory over North Quincy.  With the win the girls locked up the #3 or #4 seed in the D3 South seeding, assuring themselves home games in the first two rounds of the tournament.

Sophomore Maddie Olsen and freshman Danielle O’Brien scored 15 while senior Molly McDonough added 12 points. Seniors Kallie Morss, Kara Penney, Lauren Farrell and McDonough celebrated their night by contributing to the uptempo play both offensively and defensively.

Their leadership all season got the Lady Dogs a 16-4 record, the best in recent memory; and while they fell short in their goal to share a league championship, they were in the hunt right up to the second game with Abington on Feb. 3.

Now the wait is on to see who will be Rockland’s first opponent in the Dog Pound.  Pairings will be announced on Saturday, Feb. 21.   It could be Coyle-Cassidy or Randolph. Both teams have finished with 10-10 records and will be seeded at the 13th and 14th spots by the MIAA tournament directors with a draw on Saturday. Other possibilities would be Stang, Ursuline or Old Rochester.

The top seeds in D3 South look like Abington, Apponequet, Martha’s Vineyard and Hanover in the top five with Rockland.

Archbishop Williams or Carver could wind up in either the 6th or 7th spot.   Carver has one game left and if they win, they could be 6th, no matter what Archies does which has one left. (But then again, Archies plays 2 extra games with out of state teams which may or may not count, so it’s hard to predict.)

Norwell and Wareham are vying for the 8th spot.  Each has two games left to play.

For players and fans, the time leading up to tournament pairings is a time filled with suspense to see who the opponent will be; for coaches it is a time for preparation to try to get as much information on every possible opponent.

For players and coaches it’s also a time to rest a little then fine tune their game, correcting the flaws and augmenting the strengths.

For the seniors it is the beginning of the end of their careers and they will surely be wanting to go out strong with the best possible outcome, taking it of course, one game at a time
